About Sylvia Pu, Ph.D.
My name is Sylvia Pu, Ph.D., the owner and principal consultant of Sylvia Pu Consulting. I am a researcher, evaluator, and career coach. My work focuses on measuring and diversifying school-to-career pathways so everyone, especially under-supported learners and professionals, can have a purposeful career and thrive in their communities.
I am a first-generation immigrant from China with a background in finance, sociology, nonprofit management, teaching, and career coaching. I draw insight from these drastically different yet complementary fields when partnering with mission-driven organizations such as grantmakers, nonprofits, school districts, and social enterprises.
Through previous learning partnerships, I have helped strategy seekers gain community insights into international students, Indigenous learners, and communities disproportionately negatively affected by the criminal justice system. I have measured and demonstrated the impact of nonprofits and social enterprises that serve ESL professionals in the tech industry, healthcare workers, and immigrant youths and families.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in China. I completed my Ph.D. work with the Department of Sociology at the University of Connecticut (UConn), where I specialized in the causes of academic and career disparities. I also hold a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management from UConn.
